I am a Specialist in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Immanuel Klinik Rüdersdorf (University Hospital of MHB), where I am clinically responsible for the Section for Addiction Disorders, and a research associate at Brandenburg Medical School (MHB).
My work brings together clinical psychiatry, philosophy of psychiatry, and health services research. I draw on phenomenology — in particular the philosophies of Ortega y Gasset and Husserl — to illuminate questions in psychopathology, from the structure of delusional experience to the foundations of psychiatric knowledge. A second strand of my research examines the attitudes of mental health professionals towards transformative practices such as peer support work and the deprescribing of psychotropic medication.
Research
Applying the philosophy of Ortega y Gasset and Blankenburg to the understanding of delusion and schizophrenia. Bridging continental philosophy and contemporary psychiatry.
Implementation research, attitude studies, and institutional change processes through the introduction of peer support workers in psychiatric settings.
Qualitative and quantitative research on the attitudes of psychiatrists and patients towards antipsychotic reduction and discontinuation in outpatient settings.
Developing burden of treatment as a philosophical and ethical concept: the totality of demands that medical care places on patients — from polypharmacy and side effects to restrictions on autonomy and biographical self-determination. A critical lens on overtreatment, deprescribing, and the normative foundations of clinical practice.
